How to Avoid Writing in the First Person and Using me
How to Avoid Writing in the First Person and Using meIn an attempt to help you write more effectively, here are some tips on how to avoid writing in the first person and using i. I'm not talking about writing a poem or eulogy. Instead, I'm talking about writing - well, anything. In the interest of full disclosure, I should say that this article is aimed at writers.A lot of writers find it hard to get their thoughts across, and when they are not able to do so, they tend to write - and I mean, write like there's no tomorrow. They may even get caught up in this loop and find it difficult to break out of it. This can result in the creation of a multitude of different sentences in the hope that they will 'click' or be memorable enough to stick in your memory.Unfortunately, this is where the problem lies - and when writing in the first person, you'll find that it's very easy to get caught up in writing the sentences that you think will be so good that you forget about thinking. On top of t hat, using i to describe yourself or your feelings creates a poor image of you and of what you're trying to convey. You're likely to forget what you were trying to say!So how does one avoid this? Well, here are some great tips that can help you build your own repertoire:It is best to avoid writing in the first person and using it. It's far better to use a more descriptive word like 'you'he' instead. If you still feel the need to write using the first person, go for first person pronouns. For example, you could say: 'He made me go shopping and I spent all my money.' This will get your point across without coming across as I-use-myself-as-a-descriptive.Another alternative is to use it for self-references and I adjectives. For example, 'I am just now beginning to understand the concept of I adjectives.'Effective self-expression is something that is best achieved through careful planning. So avoid those awkward sentences and try for a more professional look using it instead.
